Welcome to the “Visual Utopia” of Bekir Salim. He is known throughout the world as a respected Muralist, Musician and Poet. He was born in 1964 in Erzurum, Turkey, where his love affair with art began at the age of 6. Bekir is a self-taught artist, always expanding his techniques. Throughout his career he was honored to have collaborated with other well-respected Turkish artists that helped enhance his artistic experiences: Elif Naci, Rahmi Pehlivanlı, Yasar Çallı and Nuzhet Islimiyeli. In 2001, he established his own art studio and workshop in Istanbul. He also opened studios in New York and Dubai between the years of 2006 and 2011. Bekir was selected as one of the seven artists to the Culture and Art Committee created by the Turkish Parliament where he also created breathtaking murals.
Currently, he has moved his studio to Chicago where is working on new endeavors in the United States. He has done paintings and murals in Texas, Illinois and Massachusetts Bekir and his artists have painted 158 Visual Utopias in Turkey, 17 Visual Utopias in the United States and 4 Visual Utopias in Dubai.
Bekir has two books of poetry that are published, and he has four books ready for publication. He was selected as a jury member and president in a variety of poetry and art competitions. He founded an organization called “Safi Gönüller” in which many popular poets, dancers and musicians were involved in. Within the organization, 47 artists were led by Bekir Salim and Cemal Safi. He also sings and plays the Saz, a popular Turkish musical instrument.
